Best-Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies

John found this recipe in the Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook on page 137. We don't use shortening so we read that you can substitute butter for shortening. It called for ¼ cup shortening, just fyi.

1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2¼ cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
2 cups (12oz) chocolate chips (we prefer milk chocolate)

Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugars, beating well. Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
Combine flour, soda and salt; add to butter mixture, mixing well. Stir in chocolate chips.
Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. We use a 1 tablespoon scoop from Pampered Chef.
Bake at 375° for 9-11 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheets, remove to wire rack. Makes about 6½ dozen.
